You've probably spent a considerable amount of time and effort setting up your website or blog. Maybe you've placed Google AdSense ads on your site, but so far you've only earned a few dollars each month. Or you've spent money on AdWords to drive traffic to your site, but the extra traffic didn't result in much additional revenue.

With AdSense, you only get a few cents each time someone clicks on an AdSense ad, so you need a fairly large amount of traffic (visitors to your site) to see any substantial profits.

But instead of just pennies per click for AdSense ads, what if you could sell an actual product where you would receive up to 70% of the sale price? For a $20 product with a 70% commission, each sale would net you $14. Much better than a few pennies per click!

This article is designed to get you up to speed and selling affiliate information products in 15 minutes or less.

How do Affiliate Sales work?

Let's say you have a website or blog devoted to cooking. Your content includes recipes, tips and techniques, utensils and equipment, ingredients, etc. Here's how to sell an appropriate affiliate product on your site:

1. Go to http://www.clickbank.com/promote_products.html then click Sign Up to sign up for a free Clickbank affiliate account.

The nickname you choose will be the "ClickBank ID" for your account. After you complete the sign up form, Clickbank will send you an email with your confirmation code. The confirmation code is your Clickbank password.

2. Use your Web browser to navigate to:

3. To search Clickbank for products related to cooking, type "cooking" in the Keywords box, select "% Earned/Sale" in the Sort By drop-down (to display the products with the highest commissions first), then click Go.

After you click Go, the search results for "cooking" are displayed.

4. To review potential products, click either the title link or the View Pitch Page link for each listing. This is what customers will see when they click the link you'll be placing on your website.

The higher the commission percentage, the more money you'll earn, so you should probably try to select a product that has a high commission percentage.

5. When you find a product you would like to sell, click the Create Hoplink link for the product. A popup will appear.

6. To create a link for the product, type in your Clickbank nickname, then click Create.

Important: check to make sure that you typed in your Clickbank nickname correctly. Typos happen, but if they happen here you won't get paid!

A new popup appears with the link to use on your website. When a visitor to your website clicks the link, they will be redirected to the product website. If they decide to buy the product, the commission will be deposited into your Clickbank account.

You can use the Clickbank Myaccount page to set a payment threshold. When the threshold is reached, Clickbank will send you a check for that amount.

And that's all there is to it! But there are just a few other things you should keep in mind...

Selling Tips

You should try to pick products related to your website or blog content area, or "niche." Think about what type of person is visiting your site and what products they might be interested in.

If you just paste the link on your website, you might get some sales, but you probably want to add some extra text to convince people to check out the cookbook offer. A personal recommendation can be very effective. You don't need to recreate the pitch page; just give people a quick reason or two to click the link.

Images can be helpful, too. If you right-click the book image on the pitch page, you can copy (or do a Save As...) the book image and use it on your website.

The image helps convince the buyer that even though it's an ebook, it's still an actual product. You could also mention the advantages of electronic cookbooks: you can reprint recipes if you spill on them, and it's easier to share favorite recipes with friends and family - you can just copy and email, rather than typing out the entire recipe by hand.
