Affiliate Recruiting Mistakes to Avoid

By Diana Frame

It takes skill and tact to successfully recruit good affiliates. Regardless of your current methods you will want to make sure that you adopt the very best strategies. There are a lot of tactics that turn potential recruits off and that you want to avoid. Here are some of them:

  • Email templates. Email is still one of the easiest ways to recruit potential affiliates but you need to be sure to personalize your email. Include specific information about the affiliate you're emailing. Something as simple as putting their name in the greeting and including something specific about them or their business in the body is all it takes.
  • Baring your soul. A lot of recruiters think you have to tell potential affiliates everything there is to know about your program. Doing this can overwhelm the potential affiliate with too much information. It can also lead to being copied by other companies or programs and being overly-compared to other programs. Just give the person an idea of what your affiliate program is all about.
  • Being too lax or too rigid. You want to be just right -- somewhere in the middle. If you're too lax you'll end up with affiliates that might not be what you want and if you're too rigid you risk screening out too many potential affiliates.

Have a strategy or system in play when you try to recruit affiliates. You want to be able to know the person first before you accept or refuse them. There are a lot more common mistakes you might be making when it comes to affiliate recruiting. You'll never know unless their pointed out to you.
