Affiliate Marketing - Work at Home and Everywhere Else

By Scott M Weaver

If you like to work in your underwear, then home is most likely the best place for you to work. Even if you do like to wear clothes from time to time, working at home is probably still the best place for you. Although jobs in general have been the building block of modern society, the sturdy foundation they used to provide has pretty much turned to sand. No longer are people fooled by the notion that working at a job is the only way to get ahead in life. People are beginning to realize that owning a home-based business offers more stability, growth and income than a job ever could. And there are many different ways to work at home: you can telecommute, you can own a home-based business or you can even become an affiliate marketer. What's important is that you start now, before it's too late.

Although traditionally, a job was the best way to forge your way through life, today this is no longer the case. Before the introduction of the internet, to work at home required a lot more effort and the variety of businesses were few. In fact, the best of the day was: go to college, get a good job and work your way up. That was the standard advice and anything else was second rate. But once the internet came around, a million doors of opportunity flew open and whole new industries were created. And the best part was: they were created by people just like me and you.

These days, people are well aware of the fact that job "security" is just a phrase employers like to toss around to make employees feel safe. The problem is when the time comes around to cut the budget and all the corners are gone: they start hacking away at salaries or at individual jobs. These people are forced to either find another job or do something on their own. A select few have the guts to quit their jobs and go start their own home based business. In either case, the difference between the two paths is amazing.

Yes, while jobs provide cheaper health care and sometimes decent retirement options, why get suckered in by these things when your job most likely won't last until retirement? Working from home allows not only flexibility should you want to switch businesses, but also the lack of worrying if your "job" will go away. And what's great is that you don't have to make the dramatic jump from a job to a business. What you can do is find a telecommuting job in the mean time to adjust slowly into your new role. While you work remotely for a company, you can work on your own items in the mean time. This way, you can take advantage of the health benefits, etc., yet not have to worry about getting fired because you'll be building a solid platform to stand on when you quit your telecommuting job.

Aside from telecommuting, you can build a home-based business or you can even become an internet (or affiliate) marketer. A home-based business is just as its name implies and typically consists of a website, inventory and everything else a normal business would have (sometimes including employees). While this is perfect for some people, for others it just doesn't fit their personality and won't make them as much money as they would like. That's where affiliate marketing comes into the picture. Affiliate marketing is, put simply, referral marketing. You refer traffic to a customer website and they pay you for the referral. All you have to do is send traffic their way and as long as your income is greater than your spend, you have a working business! Immediately, you can see why people are flocking to this type of business like no other. In fact, you can literally make millions in this business and you don't need special skills.

So start now! Due to the very aspect that makes it appealing (its simplicity), it's also an industry you need to get into while it's young. If you really want to work at home, take the initiative and start doing your research on what's available out there. Jobs might feel cushy for now, but what will happen when your position needs to get cut or your boss simply doesn't like you? It's important to build something that's your very own, that you can pass onto your children and that will give you the freedom to do what you really want with your life.
