But, there are several mistakes that are commonly made by affiliate marketers including lack of relationship building with prospects, lack of advertising and lack of follow through.

Relationship Building

Prospects buy from people they trust; they rarely purchase a product or service the first time that they land on your website. So, building relationships by providing quality information and following through on an ongoing basis are important to converting leads into paying customers for your affiliate marketing program.

Lack of Advertising

In order to drive your affiliate marketing program, you need to consistently market the products and services that you are representing. It is through a high volume of website traffic that you will gain affiliate marketing customers. Leverage promotional articles in directories, blog postings, reviews, content in your e-zines and email autoresponders to advertise your affiliate program.

Lack of Follow Through

If you simply post your affiliate marketing links and advertisements on your website hoping to make money, you are likely going to be disappointed. You must constantly change and update your advertisements to appeal to a wide audience and you must regularly advertise your products and services in order to generate a revenue stream. Review your performance data and make changes to your program if a product, service or program is not being effective for you. But, be sure to allow for enough time and put enough effort into the program before you cancel or stop promoting it however.
