Is Affiliate Marketing Really Successful?
By David Gates
Home based businesses are more popular than ever. In an effort to avoid the current economic downslide, people are looking to start a home business to supplement their income (or completely replace their current job). The fastest growing home business now is affiliate marketing. You may have heard of this before, but what exactly is it and how does it work?
What are the basics of Affiliate Marketing? An affiliate website is used to generate traffic for another website. Most online stores will use affiliate websites to broaden their customer base. When a potential customer searches for a product and stumbles on an affiliate marketing website, they read reviews or other information pertaining to the suggested product, then they click on the product. At this point they are taken to the seller as website and the affiliate is credited accordingly; whether by click or commission of sale.
The first step in becoming an affiliate is to create your own website (you can do it or you can have someone else do it for you very inexpensively). On your site you will want to maintain fresh reviews and information focused around the products offered on your seller as site. Finding a niche and picking a related domain name is the key to a successful site. You will have to pay for the domain name and a hosting service. The price is usually reasonable.
The most important thing to consider when starting a home based business of this type is to find a seller that has an affiliate marketing program. This should not be a problem because there are many sites that offer such programs. Seller as payment methods may differ a bit. Normally sellers will pay commission on the total sale generated by a click from your site. And don't worry. They keep up with the visitors you send them and pay you accordingly.
Providing traffic to the seller totally depends on generating traffic to your own site. You will need to plan some form of advertisement of your site. Strategically added keywords will optimize your rank with search engines. Advertising on other sites can also be helpful. Clearly the more traffic you have on your site, the chance of generating more traffic to your seller as site is higher.
Affiliate marketing is an ideal home based business. Though you will have the cost of the domain, hosting and maybe advertising services, they are usually low and will eventually pay for themselves. Running a site doesn't require a lot of time and you don't have to be a computer wiz to be successful. This type of home business allows you to work minimal hours and allows you to enjoy your home life.
Affiliate marketing is not your fast track to immediate riches though. It can have downsides. Generating traffic can be very difficult. Providing visitors to your seller's site is the only way you will make any money. Finding a niche can be hard; especially on that will stand out above all the others.
So, should you even try affiliate marketing? This may be the best home based opportunity. It is low cost and little experience is needed. At first it can be a bit time consuming, but the results are well worth it.
If you're serious about Affiliate Marketing please be aware of the risk. Some people, pretending to be experts are simply out to steal your hard earned money. They use elaborate methods to scam you and leave you empty handed. If there are bad guys there are also good guys. One of them is Scott Edward at Legitimate Business Reviews. The reviews on his site tell it like it is. He also gives away a free e-course to show people how to detect home business scams for themselves. |
