Goal Planning When Learning Affiliate Marketing

By Joe Nelson

Growing up I was a very busy person. I loved to achieve! It didn't matter what it was; learning how to fish, ride a bike, building a tree fort or even ice skating I always enjoyed learning and achieving. When I was playing hockey my goal was to be like Bobby Orr on the ice, therefore I set a goal to shoot 50 hockey pucks a day!

Goal setting is crucial for any person that would like to succeed. When I was a child goal setting was a little different than it is today. Honestly I did not write down on a piece of paper my plan of shooting pucks every day, I was driven by desire. The other big difference was that I was a kid, I didn't have too many other distractions like I have today. It was easy to keep focused; Eat breakfast, go to school, play hockey and ride my bike, eat dinner, and then bedtime.

Today we need to be able to maintain a level of focus. Wouldn't you agree that most people who are working within the affiliate marketing industry are doing it around their primary job. I know I am, which is fine. Someday I may decide to do it full time but I love doing both things. But to keep my head straight I need to have goals!

Ask yourself this question, what did I get accomplished this week for my business? Now ask yourself, if I had spent a little time developing a plan, how much more could I have accomplished? Don't worry you are not alone. Most people will work within their affiliate marketing business without setting goals. You know what separates success from mediocrity, Goal setting!

Speak to anyone making over $5000 a month with their online marketing business and they will tell you that they have a system of goal setting. As the amount of tasks needed to build my business increased it became even more important to be organized and focused.

I always consider myself to be in training when it comes to my online business, but early on through a training course I took, I learned what was important in the first weeks of building my business. Here is what I learned from that course in terms of goal setting:

1. Define outcomes worth achieving

Work on something that is achievable for you. Promoting five or six products within one week and maintaining my current business was not achievable in the beginning. What was achievable was writing a few articles in the week and learning how to get them published on the internet.

2. Focus on what is important for the moment

For example if you are just starting with Affiliate Marketing you are not going to build a huge website with ten different pages within the first week. You first need to understand the industry, how it works, and how to first set up your business.

3. Prioritize your Goals.

There are many components to focus on when building your affiliate marketing success. Keeping these prioritized is crucial. I look at my week and ask, what am I going to do for my business this week? I then prioritize my goals in these simple stages; I set my plan (10 articles this week, 2 new landing pages, etc), I implement my plan (Monday research, Tues and Wed 5 articles each, Thurs landing pages, etc), and then I evaluate my plan (What was accomplished, what wasn't accomplished).
