In the internet marketing business, there is no substitute for traffic generation. And the best form of traffic generation is free traffic generation.

There are many effective forms of traffic generation, but each of them must be correctly administered to be profitable.

I present you with a list of the best forms of traffic generation.

1. The Best Traffic you can Get is Referred Traffic.

Just like a referral from a friend to a good dentist, a referral from another website is the best quality traffic. This is what we refer to as directed traffic, in other words they are there because they want to be there, not because they were tricked into clicking on a link.

2. Search engine referrals.

If your website ranks on the first page or two of Google or Yahoo, this is excellent because it is free and directed because they were searching for keywords that were contained on your site.

3. targeted pay-per-click (PPC) traffic.

With this traffic, you purchase click-through's from visitors who have searched or clicked on a particular search term that is relevant to your site and offering. This is equally as effective as search engine traffic, also known as organic search, but it ranks lower because you have to pay for it. The best traffic is still free traffic.

4. Next is that of ezine advertising.

Ezines are niche online newsletters that are emailed to subscribers on a regular basis. The important thing here is to be sure to place your advertisement in an ezine that commands the type of reader who would normally be inclined to purchase or be interested in your product.

After these targeted sources of traffic, there are many untargeted sources of traffic. These include exit traffic, pop-up or pop-under traffic, and redirect traffic. Without going into details on the various sources of these forms of traffic, I will offer that untargeted traffic is typically of the lowest quality.
