Though choosing the right affiliate program can be overwhelming, keep in mind that unlike regular businesses, you only need minimal capital to get started. You can switch easily if you think you made the wrong choice without a significant loss. However, we'd like to keep the number of wrong affiliates low.

Here are points to consider when choosing the right affiliate program:

1. Merchant Quality & Integrity

Read their FAQ page, call them or find their reviews online. Have they been in business long? If yes, there's a good chance they're legit. Their Google PageRank is a good indicator of their popularity.

2. Commission Payout Amount

Not everything is about the percentage. You may be getting 90% commission payout, but if you can't sell the product, the numbers are useless. Check out their products and see if it has a market.

3. Merchant's Website

Is the website attractive? Will people buy from it? If the site is ugly, illegible and amateurish, you might be just wasting your time because, obviously, the merchant hasn't invested in converting your traffic.

4. Support

A support team member or affiliate manager should be available to help you make more money and answer all your questions.

5. Pre-made Branded Websites & Creatives

Most affiliates provide buttons, banners, images, text links and sometimes, branded websites for affiliates to use. These items make it easy to promote the merchant's products.

Be cautious but do not spend all your time trying to pick the most ideal affiliate program - try a few and just see how it goes.
