How do you really become a wealthy affiliate? It has been estimated that less than 5% of affiliate marketers actually make more than few dollars online. There are some well known steps in becoming a wealthy affiliate. Although there are hundreds of ways to earn money through affiliate marketing, some aspects are simply known to increase your chances of success dramatically. These include:

1. Marketing to a niche where money is being spent

There is little point in trying to sell products in a market where no one is really buying. Many people make the mistake of thinking that because there is less competition in the niche of pink and blue bath sponges that they will ultimately be able to succeed in that niche due to lack of competition compared say with a multi-million dollar niche like bodybuilding.

In reality, you have more chance of becoming wealthy by promoting bodybuilding products because it is a niche that people are buying products in EVERY SINGLE DAY. All you need is a tiny piece of that pie and you can become very wealthy.

So rule number one in affiliate marketing is to go where the money is being spent.
You can judge a potential hot niche by the amount of money being spent on advertising. Are the Adwords ad columns full of ads? If so, there is money being spent there as Adwords advertisers simply do not run campaigns that aren't earning them money.

2. Relish the Competition

If a niche is profitable then it will have many people competing in it. You should be worried if you find a niche or product that has no PPC advertising and very few websites dedicated to it. Besides in rare circumstances, there's a great chance that the niche is simply not profitable enough for people to bother. Instead of being afraid of the competition you should welcome it!

Competitors offer a fantastic way of helping you discover what works. If a site seems successful then modeling your site on theirs (not copying it) can cut out many months or experimenting on your part. If you think of your competitors as helpers rather than enemies you will become much more confident competing in hot niches.
